Pros

Great salary and job security. While other mines were shutting and laying off large numbers Rio Tinto Iron Ore was not, or having much smaller redundancies. Good benefits - health insurance, share schemes and deals with other businesses.

Cons

Did not foster movement for mining engineers throughout the business. Not a lot of support through graduate program. Got the feeling that if you got good at something, you were "pigeon-holed" and stuck doing that one thing.
