Pros

Rivers is a great place to work with a large variety of clients and projects. Importance is placed on learning, producing high-quality creative work and collaborating with teams. With a focus on education, Rivers pays for each employee to go to conferences all expenses paid - plane, hotel, food. We are challenged to learn and focus on our personal passions through our work. There are a lot of other great benefits offered including competitive pay, healthcare, retirement contributions, bonuses, free Friday lunches and more.

Cons

The work can be fast-paced, as it is an ad agency, but the hours still remain very reasonable with people rarely having to work during off hours.

Absolutely! We 100% want to see each and every team member do their personal best and learn as much as they can. We love for our team to learn and grow. We work with each individual to set goals, we peer program, we do peer art and code reviews, and we focus on individual advancement. We like to say, if you are continually setting goals and reaching those goals you are in the right place professionally. Sometimes feedback comes from winning awards and sometimes the best feedback is when a client's e-commerce conversion rates go up 67% when we launch a new site. That means that the entire team made a lot of amazing decisions about everything from product database architecture to user experience. We want to keep our team on top of all of the most cutting edge technologies and best practices in the industry. This shows a clear commitment to our team and to our clients. Last week we had 2 teammates at the Magento conference in NYC and this week we have 1 teammate at a javascript class all week in NYC and in 2 weeks we have 6 teammates going to the InternetSummit. We send our team wherever we can to help them learn the most. Many thanks!! Glad you value learning and growth too! Lauren Rivers CEO

Pros

I worked for Rivers Agency for many years, and saw the company grow from a handful of creatives to a bustling Chapel Hill institution with dozens of employees. Leadership has always been really ambitious, taking on a diverse set of clients and plenty of challenging projects. I still keep in touch and maintain a good relationship with the folks at Rivers, and credit the agency with giving me with the projects and guidance that built my foundation as a marketing professional. I really enjoyed working with my team, bouncing ideas off each other and collaborating on big projects. Working at Rivers is extremely fast-paced and the projects are diverse, so I gained work experience in lots of different areas. The office space is clean and modern. The company buys lunch for employees often and hosts a great end-of-year party. Leadership was understanding and accommodating, working around personal schedules and commitments when asked.

Cons

I put late hours in occasionally, launching big projects or meeting tight deadlines... I think this is something to be expected working at an ad agency or on a marketing team. It wasn't often, and management was appreciative, acknowledging my efforts. Deadlines can be tight and the work very past-paced, so having personal organizational skills, the ability to problem-solve, and the ability to prioritize are important for success.

Pros

Rivers is one of the best boutique agencies in the area. Since Rivers doesn’t focus on a particular industry, there’s a really robust mix of projects including branding, web and app design and a lot of print work too. Clients range from national/regional chains to small local startups. The leadership at Rivers encourages employees to grow and learn and provides opportunities to develop skills, attend conferences, etc. The creative team is supportive and collaborative. It really feels like everyone is here focused on doing their best work. Rivers offices are in a beautiful (really beautiful) open space in downtown Chapel Hill that’s walkable to restaurants and shops. Parking is paid for by the agency. Employee lunches are catered on Fridays and the kitchen is constantly stocked with snacks and coffee. Benefits are on par with larger companies. Work/life balance is pretty good for an ad agency - it’s rare that people work nights or weekends - and there's a fairly low turnover rate considering how large the agency has become.

Cons

Only small growing pains. This a great place to work.
