Pros

A decent summer job to earn some money as a sales associate. I worked the morning shift where you unload the truck delivering the merchandise and spend a large portion of the work day properly stocking the merchandise in the right department. The people I worked with were all nice and of course the discounts to clothes always helps.

Cons

Morning shift is always stressful because the managers need the product out of the backroom ASAP and if you fall behind, its spells trouble for the rest of the week. I understand the managers have a boss but sometimes their goals of properly processing the merchandise by day's end is unreasonable. During my time working there over the summer I saw numerous long term employees quit due to disrespect. It really was an associates versus supervisors environment.

Pros

The atmosphere is fresh and always up to date. Merchandise is unique and ever changing. There is a good rapport among store managers within the district. Dedicated customers are willing to drive 1 hour to find other Ross stores. Customers from foreign countries know that Ross is the place to shop. Ross carries many items that are found in major department stores.

Cons

Work is never completed. There is always a task that lacks attention due to lack of associates. In order to be successful salary management must work an average 10 hours a day. Not enough payroll to provide adequate customer service and recovery.

Pros

The atmosphere is very fast paced.

Cons

The stores across the country function as slightly controlled chaos. Senior Management talks in meeting after meeting about fixing the problems that are apparent to everyone - however they have no clue what it is like operating a store under the unrealistic parameters - nor do they care to know. Best bet for career at Ross is to get a promotion and get out while you can. The business model is built around turnover - and it has constantly chewed people up for the last 7-9 years that I have been familiar with it. Todays Hero is tomorrow's failure - ask anyone who's no longer there.
