Pros

No college degree required to obtain a position. Pretty easy job to land. Fairly flexible hours, and mostly nice customers.

Cons

This job requires a lot of multi-tasking and high-stress fast-paced workflow. The management was all bilingual, and would speak in Spanish in front of associates constantly, which is extremely rude, and makes you think they are saying something they don't want you to hear. They can do this on their own time. They shouldn't do this at work. In addition, they were very nice before hiring a person, and then they were really rude, even on the first day of work. A please or a thank you didn't exist, They were snappy, yelled over 4 articles of clothing being on a rack that you were sorting, even though you were doing like a million other tasks, expected you to know everything the minute you clocked in for your first shift, and gave you no direction. I like a challenge, and I am not too picky on pay, especially given the economy, but I will tell you this, the Walmart that everyone hates, and trust me, I do, too, is a major step up! I'm not kidding! The associate that trained me received 8.27/hr, and she was there for over 3 years! Min. wage here is 8.05! Oh, and they almost never let anyone move up, so not only do you receive under $9/hr for years, you also get under 25 hrs/wk for years! Now, the job itself... I worked fitting rooms... answer all incoming calls to the store, use headset to communicate with management on anything, and they will bark orders at you also, make sure EVERY customer hangs every item of clothing on the T-rack, give them a number, make sure they put everything back on the rack, don't miss anyone walking past, general customer service, let people into the restrooms, make sure they take no merchandise in with them, hold merchandise for customers, sort out all fitting room garments that people don't want (at least 100/hr when it's really slow) onto a rack, sort out everything the other associates and managers throw at you (which is anything out of place in the store, and I mean, they go through every rack and find miscategorized things everywhere), recover the toys section and children's apparel that is within a distance the fitting rooms are visible from and accessible to in case a customer walks up to them, they call you on your 15 minute breaks, and they don't stop calling until you come out, you can only walk through a certain place when you go to and from break, and the dress code is super strict (solid ROYAL blue shirt with sleeves, and black slacks with black closed toe shoes (no navy blue, denim, or cadet blue, and no jeans or khakis). The other retail jobs I have worked at least give you a couple options, like jeans and black pants, or jeans and khakis, and they don't care about the shoe color, just the style of shoe and safety of it. This job is MINIMUM wage, 12-20 hrs/wk, and SUPER STRESSFUL. This is the overall worst job I have worked (I have held positions with 10+ other companies in my employment history, 2 others were retail, and 2 distribution centers)! It is also the lowest paying job I have ever worked. The other retail were slightly higher, and the distribution centers were notably higher. Did I mention they do an annual evaluation for your raise? No 3 or 6 month raise, and since it is set a certain way, it would have been 15 months of exceptional performance before I would have been moved up, and the raise would have been miniscule. If you don't mind bending over backwards for pocket change, and no advancement, then this is the job for you!
