Prepare yourself. This is a really long one, but I try to be objective & thorough.
Pros
-You meet some great coworkers there & for the most part everyone helps one another. -The Double (40%) discount is very nice when it comes around. -Management does, for the most part, work around your availability & will definitely hire you even if you are in school part time or full time. (they also have a scholarship for Ross workers who are students) -It's great for people new to retail looking for lots of experience because managers do allow you to work in all areas of the store from customer service to stock room. -Fast pace so the day goes by relatively fast. -Because of the experience you learn, the majority of other retail stores are quick to snap you up. -Store manager is willing to help you & will correct you in respectful manner when you make an error.
Cons
-Management does have ridiculous expectations. *They will expect you to still go to work when you're extremely sick (e.g. high fever, vomiting, sneezing/coughing nonstop, migraines, dizziness, severe back pain, etc.) *Assistant manager, at one particular store, expects you to work until 2-4 o'clock in the morning on non-holiday/sale event nights. Also wants everything sized & prefect when that isn't apart of the night recovery team's responsibility. While also blaming the associates for her choice to stay that late. *Assistant manager is rude & talks down to you like you are a idiot, even for asking for help or just simple questions. Also contradicts herself & is a complete hypocrite by, for example, yelling at you for going over your time & not asking for help when you need it, but when you ask for help so you can get your work done faster in the fitting room or register she turns you down over & over & this happens even before she yelled at you. *Expects you to know all the SIR for every month so management can impress corporate. *Drives employees crazy trying to make sure the store is pristine prefect for corporate visits, but are lackadaisical when corporate isn't there. *Can easily be yelled or written up at for not knowing the rules, but management does not go over all of the rules when you are first hired. *Will blame you for things that are really not your fault or far from your responsibility. *I understand assigning many tasks at once when the store isn't so busy, but management expect for it to all the done & prefect when the store is super busy & the fitting room is even busier. -Customers are impatient & extremely rude especially to fitting room attendants & cashiers. I am sad that lot of the ethnic groups & foreign French Canadians are the worst since I am apart of an ethnic group myself. (e.g. getting mad at you for not understanding their language, throws clothes at you, cursing you out for checking the hard tags which is your job to do & they know that, intentionally throwing clothes on the ground you just fixed, getting mad at you because they can't try on underwear because doing so is OK in their country, getting mad at you for politely telling their kids to stop running or to stop playing/swinging on racks & with toys.) -New ridiculous rules are always being implemented adding more responsibility to your already heavy load. -Typical bathroom & fitting room maintenance is expected at most places like making sure there is no paper on the floor & the bathroom isn't smelly, but be prepared to clean up the worst as a fitting room attendant. Letting you know now since they don't tell you this in the job requirements on the site. (e.g. urine, vomit, menstrual blood, feces stained toilet paper, feces.) -I was trained very well under previous management, however most newcomers are frustrated because they are expected to know everything, but are not trained properly by management leaving more work for other coworkers. -Be careful of gossipers or getting involved in gossiping because it happens a lot at Ross & can possibly get you fired.
