Politics Difficult to Navigate

The St. Louis office is located in downtown Clayton with lots of options to walk to a variety of lunch establishments; across from park.

Cons

Management by fear. Favorites played. Scapegoats selected. Politics difficult to navigate. Perception is EVERYTHING here. Old-fashioned, stodgy, conservative, strict. No flex hours or autonomy. Hard to get anything done because you have to get buy-in from the entire board, not just your department managers. Have seen Partners throw all-out temper tantrums over lunch orders. Screaming; yelling; slamming doors - totally against company "core values." Partners are kings; everyone else is a peon. Company expanded too fast with acquisitions and isn't skilled at it; as a result, folks in the newer offices are often resentful and angry (legitimately). Constant turnover. Stifling environment overall. Felt suffocated. Worst company I've ever worked for; worst managers I've ever worked for.

Pros

Very inspiring partners, upper management is putting in a lot of work to improve the internship program and compete with the Big 4 accounting firms. They spend a lot of time trying to make their employees happy by taking them to various events and allowing collaboration between departments in social settings.

Cons

The work needs to be more challenging and more effort should be put towards showing interns all parts of the audit process, not just compliance and benefit plan. Summer can be slow so the 8 week program should be more concentrated on maximum exposure.

Pros

Great culture and people. Challenging work that is engaging that comes with many learning opportunities (great for exit opportunities). Flexible work options - can work from home when you need to, and no one is looking over your shoulder.

Cons

Pay is below market for staff regardless of region. Organizational structure only has three positions: staff, manager, and partner so there is limited room for promotions. Raises do not appear to be performance-based as the range is smaller. No cellphone stipend despite needing your personal device to receive texts for security purposes to access networks, answer emails, and have phone calls. No bonuses for staff.
