Pros

Their 401K by Fidelity matches 100% on the first 4% and 50% on the next 2% you contribute for a total of 5% which is totally 100% vested as soon as you join. They pay you for all the major holidays and you earn a week vacation every 6 months.

Cons

Ryerson(corporate) management have no real clue what goes on by the local management at local service centers.Where I worked the management and sales people got quarterly bonus for production by the warehouse workers which got nothing. They pushed us and abused us with verbal intimidation and threats. They made us do illegal procedures to boost profits for there quarterly bonuses. We had no union where I worked so there was little recourse.

Pros

Average company with average benefits-stable employment for people that don't want to better themselves. Most people leave after 1-2 years so there is a major gap in ages. You are either new or you've worked here for 20+ years.

Cons

People love to throw one another under the bus daily. If you do this enough you are looked at as promoteable. Think high school tattletales but 40-50 year old people doing the tattling...

Not worth it

Pros

People working at Ryerson are among the hardest working people in any industry or job. The benefits are good and comprehensive, the skill set acquired and knowledge gained working here are unmatched. You can run circles around anyone in your next job and make more money just because you're used to working yourself hard for less. The CEO seems to a lot more forward thinking than most.

Cons

Not only is this a "boys club" it's also an egocentric, and condescending environment. People are undervalued (maybe temporarily bought over with catered lunches and Ryerson gear) but stay to their desks 8 hours a day and asked to keep bathroom breaks to a minimum to make sure the phones are answered. Inter-department mistrust and hostility because management has fostered a culture of blame. Commission plans are purposely unclear and confusing (and commission is few and far between). Ryerson Academy is a pro and negative as it trains the company's potential future, but the company is not ready for the change or the future at all. Also, employees were once asked to write positive reviews.
