TripIt! Great App. Not So Great Company.

Pros

This review is for TripIt only. Not the whole of Concur - Great work-life balance. - Ideal for new parents looking to get back in the workforce - Ideal for new interns looking for an easy entry into the field, who would then want to move on to join other software companies in a year or two - Free snacks (if you consider a pro at all)

Cons

- Below par salary in both Bellevue and San Francisco areas. - Passionate Software Engineers stay away. Outdated tech stack. - Promotion or career growth is rarity in the Engineering department. Attrition is more common. - This group moved to a quarterly performance review system. Now they have the opportunity to provide "feedback" to employees 4 times in a year. Don't be fooled, only feedback is 4 times a year. Merit increases and bonuses are still only only once-a-year

Pros

Pay is decent, but that's about it

Cons

- Some horrible people in the program management and client project management teams. - Place is run by one upper management person who is calling the shots on every aspects of the government business, from R&D to product to QA. Leadership is a mess. - Over promising government clients and cannot deliver. Bit more than they can chew. Everyday customers are threatening to walk away. - Terrible travel/expense management product for the government. Outdated technologies. Tons of product defects are logged everyday and cannot fix them all. All they do is hotfixes and patched every other day or so. - Low morale, and no respect for the worker bees. Those who can talk or suck up to the management and do nothing get the pat on their shoulders.

Pros

Concur is a fantastic company with a spectacular product. It was fun to sell a product that had such a positive impact on the building. They always plan fun events and keep things lighthearted when the company is doing well. Also, the people working at Concur are outgoing, smart and made going to work enjoyable. The do a new job hiring the best of the best, which was a result of a lengthy interview process.

Cons

There are many cons that far outweigh the pros.... First and foremost, the management's micromanaging style is not only a deterrent to the business productivity, but it also is the reason for their inability to retain top talent. They create unrealistic metrics that can only be reached by "luck" in my opinion. If you have a nice sales rep that counts your meetings, you hit your metrics. If you have "hot states", you hit your metrics. There are too many factors going against the MDRs (Market Development Reps), and the high stakes of this mentally exhausting job make the best candidates for future sales reps hate and detest the job and moreover the company as a whole.
