Pros

Some teams have talented people who genuinely care about doing good work.

Cons

This is not a place for you, if you value yourself. The tech is old, plans change constantly, and no one seems to know what the real direction is. Leaders mess things up and then push the blame onto their teams. The CEO loves the spotlight while everyone else is told there is no budget. People get fired fast with little explanation, no coaching, and zero patience for mistakes. Long hours are expected, fear runs the day, and turnover is nonstop, so if you want peace of mind, avoid it.

SCAN Health Plan Response

We regret hearing about your negative experience, but are glad to hear you enjoyed working alongside talented, mission-driven colleagues during your time at SCAN. While we recognize that individual experiences can vary, we want to be clear that SCAN’s work culture is not one driven by fear, instability, or blame. SCAN is committed to fostering a work environment where our Rebels (employees) can feel heard, valued, and connected to our mission of keeping seniors healthy and independent. Our culture remains rooted in accountability and respect and has no room for blame-shifting or behaviors that undermine trust. Our leadership team takes this responsibility seriously and with 91% of employees saying that SCAN is a great place to work according to our Great Place to Work survey—we believe we’re headed in the right direction. As an evolving organization, we do recognize change can be challenging and is experienced differently by individuals and teams. While we’re always looking for ways to further strengthen how we deliver care for our members, resource allocation and system upgrades are approached responsibly with financial stewardship in mind to ensure long-term scale and stability for our members and Rebels alike. Similarly, employment decisions are made carefully and with consideration, with coaching, feedback, and performance expectations being core to how we support growth, not an afterthought. Additionally, SCAN’s leadership maintains an open-door policy to allow for candid feedback from all levels of the organization with the option to submit anonymously at any time. As you have moved on from SCAN, we wish you the best in your future pursuits.

Used to be a good place to work

Pros

- Worthwhile mission statement. - Nice people who are/were there to do good work and help members. - Decent pay and benefits package.

Cons

- High turnover. Massive erosion in culture and internal knowledge after exit program, layoffs, outsourcing of entire teams, good people leaving after they've had enough, etc. Explicit threat of replacement from offshoring + ai. - Top-heavy, too many cooks in the kitchen. Big influx of new executives (at the same time as the layoffs were taking place) given the directive to move fast and change things. Change can be a good thing when implemented with care, but this was chaotic and schizophrenic. Made anything you worked on feel stressful, unsustainable and ultimately performative over substantive. Tanked morale. - Micromanagement from the top-down. Obvious fear to generate more "efficiency" and "productivity" metrics to try to protect their teams.

Pros

Used to be a really good place to work for

Cons

Ever since the CEO came in with his abusive behavior - it’s become a crappy place to work (was really nice before the change in leadership). And don’t fall for the obviously phony positive reviews of late - ask anyone that’s currently working here how they (honestly) feel.
