Pros
Good money for hard work and company provided numerous opportunities to learn both OJT and academic courses. International opportunities and had a full range of great benefits.
Cons
In the good times (high oil prices) forget work/life balance. Company promoted safety but location operations managers threw that out the window when it got busy. In bad times you were well advised to have saved as much as possible from the good times - you were likely to need it! And on short notice. Company became very degree oriented back around the mid to late 80's which left well trained but non-degreed employees pretty much out of the progression matrix and well trapped in low level positions.
