SLR is not qualified to “make sustainability happen”

Pros

Sometimes you can learn things

Cons

At SLR, the structure of P&Ls based on geography and client type has led to the creation of isolated factions. This arrangement has allowed senior staff to sidestep interactions with junior employees who are early in their careers and are interested in learning other specialties. Allowing this to continue has led to millions of dollars in lost opportunities. Instead of fostering a collaborative team environment, the culture now revolves around "Just for Me" rather than "One Team." After being acquired by Ares, the company's relentless focus on utilization and cost-cutting has fundamentally changed its character. SLR has developed an environment where cliques and bullies operate unchecked, with no consequences for their behavior. This toxic atmosphere is driven by individuals with inflated egos who boast about their industry connections but lack genuine integrity.

Cog in the wheel

Pros

Colleagues were experienced and absolutely some of the best minds in their field. SLR is full of talented people that care about their team members and the quality of their work output.

Cons

The company is perpetually understaffed in all departments. There's always too much work to complete. The culture is not "One Team," because it's about being billable and about how many things you can get done. You feel like a cog in the wheel of a company that is rapidly expanding even though new employees are leaving only after a few months or a year, and people who have worked at acquired companies for decades leave a year after being absorbed. It truly feels like you're on a sinking ship, working here. Benefits are so-so (the health insurance in particular is quite bad), and salary was less than what is industry standard.

Taken for Granted

Pros

Relaxed work atmosphere where mid-level employees are given substantial responsibilities. Good PTO for long term employees.

Cons

Lower than average pay. Junior employees are hired at higher pay than existing employees. Many recent company acquisitions, leading to a loss of company direction.
