Pros

No job at this place has any pros

Cons

If the choice is work here or live in a cardboard box. Take the box. If you have any self-esteem or confidence in your ability...this place will suck it out of you in short order. The management there is non-existant. There is no plan for advancement other than the buddy sytem and knowing somebody. You can work 16 hour days for years and on your reviews you'll be hammered that you still didnt do enough.

Not worth it...

Pros

The benefits are amazing and the gentlemen in upper management are wonderful. There are also many wonderful people that shockingly continue to work under the worst conditions. Additionally, the company continues to make positive decisions in regards to acquisitions and divestitures that benefit all.

Cons

The supervisors, leads, and managers are a joke. Many have no idea what their employees actually do or how to guide them. They do very little work themselves and actually just walk around the office gossiping and chatting it up. They hire people who have little to no experience, or qualifications to fumble their way around with very little training. The real work-horses, longtime employees who have much experience, are frustrated and looking for new opportunities because they are overloaded, underpaid, and not appreciated. Many law-suit worthy actions take place with leads and supervisors. Additionally, there is so much back-biting and brown-nosing which leads to promotions that should not take place. HR refuses to handle issues in a professional manner and chooses instead to shove incidences under the rug rather than confront them. Since there is no one to turn to with problems, most employees are frustrated and feel hopeless.

Pros

Pay is slightly above average and when times are good, bonuses are good. But a bonus is considered part of your salary and the reason pay is not farther above average. Lot of training classes are available if you want to attend.

Cons

Working here is like being in a soap opera. Things are so bad, you cannot trust anyone. People here would stab you in the back to get ahead. The only way to progress here is if you are a buddy to you manager. Otherwise, forget it because you have NO chance. If you have a problem, you have nowhere to turn. Cannot trust your manager and we are all afraid to contact HR for any complaints because of the repercussions later on. You are not allowed to have an outside job other than working for SM. It's strictly forbidden. They pretty much own you 24/7. If you want to work with people you cannot trust, like being treated like a child and harassed, this is the place for you. Sick time accrued here is so bad, it takes 4 months to build enough time to take one sick day.
