Pros

SPS Commerce is a story in two parts, before and after significant senior leadership changes. I'll focus on the pros before the change: - Strong team cohesion - Excellent cross-team collaboration - Fantastic learning opportunities - Pay for performance - Amazing learning opportunities - Support from senior leadership - Great opportunities for growth - Transparent communication from leadership - Respected company you could be proud to have on your resume

Cons

All the cons from my experience come after the leadership changes: - Lack of support from senior leadership - In-fighting and a lack of collaboration both within and across teams - Employees are in survival mode, growth opportunities are now limited - Pay for performance replaced with a system based on favoritism from new leadership - New team members are selected based on leadership relationships, not talent - Transparency is gone - Stock price went from $208 at the peak to $62 at the time of this review. For those of who held stock, this is a big loss.

Pros

SPS has some cool, new flashy stuff. They have cool tech, and a lot of incredible people. I never once doubted any of my wonderful coworkers, and lower management is fantastic. I wouldn't be where I am now in my career if it weren't for the managers I had and the people I got to work with. You can also move around a lot, which is good if you're exploring and aren't sure your path yet. I got to basically create my own promotions (into titles like the one above), so there is opportunity to move.

Cons

After four years there, it became painfully clear that C-levels give a lot of lip service, and ultimately, growing company profits is prioritized above all else. Their goal is to pay people up to 75% of market share (and most of the time they aren't meeting that goal). They pull kids in from colleges (private, white colleges) who don't know what they're worth yet, so they're underpaid. Upper management is extremely far out of touch in terms of diversity and inclusion. Before I left, I knew eight others who have left within the last year and a half because we're all disappointed that SPS is not interested in investing in true change to become an inclusive company that sides with social justice in the community. That would cost real money, which they're not interested in. There are groups trying to push for change, but when it comes to making a definitive statement , senior leadership won't commit. After 2.5 years of trying, I had to go.

Pros

The company culture is very supportive as a whole. My interactions with teams, individuals, directors, and executives company-wide were very positive. You can always find someone who wants to help you grow and succeed, and SPS has a knack for hiring some very high performing talent. There are plenty of names I wish I could leave in this review (but I won’t, Glassdoor terms of service team...) because they truly made me proud of where I worked and helped my grow my professional career to the next level.

Cons

While the company as a whole is supportive of employees, there can be cliques of people who do not embody SPS’ values. This becomes problematic when those people are in management positions. Tip to any current or prospective employees: be friendly with your managers, even if you don’t agree with their decisions and treatment of you and/or others. If they don’t like you, you’ll have a bleak time at SPS. I had my fair share of special treatment when agreeing and nodding enthusiastically, and also experienced management who disliked me on a professional or even personal level, and they made that very clear in day to day interactions. Despite the bitter taste left in my mouth from a couple of individuals, I am still leaving a positive review because the positives from the many really did outweigh the cons of the few.
