Pros

I love the work that I do and the flexibility this job used to offer. In the past 15 months since they did the restructure they have been rolling out change after change, chipping away at everything I loved about my job when it was Dean. They no longer value the employee and are treating people very poorly for a Catholic organization. The pay seemed competitive but no longer have a sense of job security.

Cons

I used to love my job at Dean. Since restructure it seems that there are unrealistic expectations, huge changes rolling out without much forethought about the consequences for workers, only the bottom dollar. Leadership starting from the top seems to only value us based on a number and a sense of quantity over quality that I never felt until recently. I am so torn between loving the job and some of the people, but feeling unable to deal with the anxiety and lack of appreciation. They seem to be pushing higher paid people who have many years with the company out the door which is disgraceful. I no longer have any sense of security or value. Management has thrown people in situations with very minimal training and support, and chastise when you are working hard to meet their ridiculous standard. They seem to be setting up for failure so they can hire in new cheaper labor. I agree with someone who said the company only seems to recognize the healthcare side (doctors and nurses) and not the rest of the company.

Pros

Great teamwork on my unit; I know it'll be a good day if I'm not pulled. My team leader is fantastic, helpful, and caring..all of us are comfortable going to her about any problem Plenty of opportunities for OT/extra money and they compensate well when you agree to work an extra shift Great place to learn a lot quickly because of the diversity of patients. I've been here for a year and can't believe how much I know now that I didn't when I started. There is absolutely none of the 'nurses eat their young' that you hear so much about. Everyone wants everyone else to succeed and will go out of their way to help you learn. -PTO adds up quickly and the cap is pretty high so you can save up for a nice long trip

Cons

They consistently understaff our units and management likes to add more and more responsibilities for what nurses have to do each shift while not giving them enough staff to even meet the patients needs, let alone managements needs Pay is really so-so...My nurses can barely make ends meet and they make twice as much as I do! For the amount they expect us to do we should all be making 50% more an hour. The health insurance provided can only be used with SSM doctors. Which can be awkward. Since we work with those doctors. Every day. Also, their health insurance doesn't cover birth control unless it's coded/billed EXACTLY right. You are required to work minor holidays that they don't pay you for and if you call in they schedule you for the next holiday. The major holidays you are required to work you still probably won't get holiday pay for. Have fun spending New Year's Eve at the hospital for base pay. And after spending Christmas Eve and New Years Eve at the hospital making base pay, you won't get a holiday bonus.
