Pros

I worked with some great nurses, and though we were all at our wits end we managed to work together as well as good be expected. I learned what a great nurse I am in the end.

Cons

First time in 10 years I've ever written a negative review, and for a workplace none the less. A "ministry," they call themselves. Upper management made promises and along with the company, harassed travelers to becoming employed with SSM. Besides the shady look of the contracts, they led us to believe we'd have flexibility in scheduling, and that was not the case. They hired people in batches so quickly everyone got worried of what we were getting into, then did the same with stopping contracts without enough notice to move us into other positions. They use this as a way to move their money for tax purposes. They could care less about their patients or employees. When nurses bring up ethical matters for patients, the male management brushes them off.

Pros

Remote work. Liked my coworkers.

Cons

Too many layers of management & micromanaged. Auditing process was not consistent & arbitrary. Didn't feel like I was allowed to express my opinion, eg, state my understanding of why something should or shouldn't be coded, but management was always right. Then the same issues would come up from an external audit & they'd act as though that was the first time they had heard of it! So frustrating.

Pros

It was once a good place to work. Hopefully if any experienced nurses are left they will make it better again.

Cons

SSM is completely business driven. Patient safety is not taken into consideration. They literally took the care out of health care when they rebranded. There is no appreciation for experienced employees. A warm body with a pulse at a lower pay scale is their new business model. Patients suffer because they are only a medical record number with $$ attached. They should be ashamed of what the network has become since it has turned over from a ministry into a greedy business platform.
