Pros

Self scheduling, rotating holidays, flexibility to trade with other staff members, assigned/set weekends, free & easily accesible parking, mostly pleasant co-workers, many long term employees. great teamwork between co-workers. pay is good overall. many opportunities to work extra when census is high.

Cons

certain team leaders/manager like to micro-manage too much, control freaks, have their personal favorite nurses which leads to a very clique like enviroment. also benefits keep getting trimmed or taken away completely such as loan reimbursement assistance. health insurance co-pays & out of pocket expenses keep going up along with premiums. cut shift differential after 2 years there, supposedly align with other hospitals in system but they should have been brought up to the higher level. I took an $8,000 year pay cut by the time you figured in the loss of shift differential & the loan reimbursement. On call requirements high for certain floors but not others. also tend to get forced off to stay at home on call for a couple dollars an hour which can cause big issues if living paycheck to paycheck or one income household.

Pros

clean, up-to-date, good equipment/amenities. decent benefits and plenty of in-services on site. Fairly high standard for nursing care.

Cons

Self-insured--which means they decide what is covered for you and all your coworkers. No birth control, for example, even if I pay huge taxes t send their 6 kids to schools and I don't burden the system with a single one myself. Gatekeeper PCP. Workman's comp is brutal there--and if you are badly inured they will treat you like a leper, even if you have worked a long career with no history of serious injury nor time previously lost for injury. Sometimes they turn a blind eye to lazy or thoughtless coworkers or those who short-change their patients, maybe because they fear a lawsuit.
