Pros

It's a job. Better than not working.

Cons

Expect chaos and change as long as SSM owns Dean Health Plan which will be forever. Benefits and policies have been reduced with more changes on the way. Executives report to SSM. The primary leaders are bullies who push their weight around to have people moved/removed. IT turnover is atrocious. All project managers from three years ago are gone. The environment is filled with games and politics. The business leaders don't get along with and have no respect for IT.

Mission? Yes. Experts? Meh.

Pros

Mission-centric, truly feel as though they are doing "good" in the world. There are really some fantastic people working there that I'm privileged to have met.

Cons

The managers and decision makers in this organization are not experts. Their promotion policies seem to lean more towards boosting people that can be controlled like puppets and less about getting the best people for the job. They have a hard time investing money in becoming the experts, including providing industry-standard salaries.

Pros

Great working environment, benefit, and pension plan.

Cons

The company doesn't invest in current employees, and only selected few are given opportunities to advance internally. Morale is low because external applicants are given the opportunity for key positions over current high-performing employees. When internal applicants apply for key positions, they are not given the courtesy of an interview, only a letter of "You do not meet/qualify." Which is odd being that no one has interviewed with the employee to make that determination. Poor recruitment process for internal applicants!
