Management was for the most part terrible. There was favoritism (Managers buying only certain employees meals) and one manager in particular was an incredible jerk. Once I was written up because I went home, after he told me to go home because I was too sick to work. The turnover rate was high-most employees did not stay as long as even a year. The pay was low for how stressful it was- 8.50 an hour if you started at 3am, no tips despite the fact that it was a coffee shop. Rushes were 4 hours long in the mornings and sometimes people still tried to give us tips...it went into a little black box from which none of us ever saw a cent. The supervisor was a tyrant- despite the large amounts of money we made for this company on a daily basis, we were always accused of stealing and watched constantly. Prices constantly rose but our wages did not. Also, don't expect your co-workers to show up. Once I opened to a morning rush all alone...there were supposed to be 4 of us. The worst thing about working here is that a real colectivo won't hire you if they know you've been working here. In short, SSP America is full of greed, a lack of concern for their employees and a lack of concern in their quality of product. Perfect, right? This is the worst job I've ever had.
