Cons
Door to door sales where the homeowners have no clue you're showing up, despite you lying and say they should have been told to expect you. You drive around and go door to door with a list of new homeowners provided to you. You have a script to basically memorize to try and get your foot in the door. While you're selling a helpful product, home security, you're pretty much instructed to sell them the minimum of what they'd need in order to maximize your commission. If a customer wants more, or advanced packages, you can provide that but it starts to cut into commission so you're often told to try and push that off onto the tech who will also try to sell things to the customer when they arrive to install everything. Invasive job where you're knocking on people's doors till 8/8:30 at night and sometimes reps get desperate if they've had a cold night, that they'll be knocking on doors till 9pm, which is flat out rude and usually doesn't get you a good response from the person answering the door. Most customers, rightfully so, tend to want to discuss the idea or think it over, rather than make a snap decision in 30 mins. But your job is to talk them out of needing to think it over, and get them to sign a contract on the spot. Follow ups are not encouraged unless the lead is basically guaranteed. So typically you're preying on those that are easily talked into things and don't really take time to think everything over. Mon-Fri: meeting at 12 and then you're door to door 2-8. Also required to work half day on Sat if you haven't already hit your weekly goal. So you can kiss most of your free time goodbye. Lots of staff turnover. Longest someone on staff was there when I started, other than the managers, was just over 2 months. Mostly kids either in college or fresh out of college.
