Pros

In comparison to the former management company before Sage took over, Sage is fine. They offer PTO (3 hours per pay period) Sick pay (3 days per year) discounted health, vision, and dental, 401K with company matching (3%). At my hotel, people aren't denied time off requests.

Cons

Management is always unavailable because Sage loves conference calls, forecasting, and meetings, and compliance audits. as a line level employee you don't get the support needed from management because they aren't available. They took hospitality and made it not fun anymore. Since coming to Sage nearly 3 years ago I've applied for 4 promotions, and haven't moved up or learned anything new, because managers are too busy to teach. So the opportunity to move up within your own hotel is difficult especially when no one is available to show or teach new skills. Sage Hospitality is located 2,000 miles away and doesn't understand the market or special events that fill the city loves overselling our hotel, even when there is no place to walk to, but as a line level front desk agent who has no incentive to sell out, 98% occupancy with no walks is better than 100% occupancy with 1 walk. Also it's a hotel, so the hours aren't ideal. everyone else leaves at 5, and you're stuck until 12. Since Sage took over in Charlotte (4 hotels) they've lost 5 General Managers in 3 years.

Pros

Their "Independence Plan" for Executive Committee members grants "unlimited" PTO from day one. Due to high turnover within the company, there is always opportunity to move and do task force.

Cons

Where do I begin... There are many Sage specific systems, procedures and processes and they do not have any real training for them. Yet, you're expected to know them all. They present unrealistic promises and budgets to ownership and then put pressure on the property level associates to meet these goals. Task force at transition hotels is a joke. Very unprofessional, gossipy, didn't know the brand and didn't know Sage. Very desperate hiring decisions were made during transition. 6 months after the transition the hotel is back to square one, only one manager is still there. Corporate/Human Resources is a joke. Complaints and concerns fell on deaf ears. Very unsupportive and "deal with it yourself" attitudes.

Thank you for sharing your feedback. Many of our leaders do seem to appreciate the trust we put in our leaders to take the time off that they need via our Independence Plan. Currently we are experiencing 12% turnover year to date as a company. However, it sounds like your experience felt different. We would love to invite you to speak directly to our CPO or COO as your feedback about your experience is very important to us. Please reach out to us at myvoice@sagehospitality.com and we can arrange time for this discussion. It is through feedback like this that we can find ways to improve. Thank you.
