Pros

The mission to destigmatize mental health is noble in theory. • Strong client demand for services in many communities. • Local clinicians genuinely care about their clients.

Cons

• Predatory Franchise Model: Ellie promises a “plug-and-play” system but delivers none of the contracted services, training, or support. We were left to build infrastructure from scratch, while paying steep monthly royalties. • Corporate Negligence: Repeated communication breakdowns, missed contractual obligations, and 60+ day delays in arbitration responses showed a consistent lack of professionalism and accountability. • Financial Harm: Despite investing hundreds of thousands of dollars, Ellie’s broken systems (billing, hiring support, marketing) forced us into severe debt. We received zero financial relief from the franchisor, even when faced with operational collapse. • Toxic Culture: The company fosters a misleading, cult-like brand image that prioritizes growth over the well-being of both clients and providers. Ethics and transparency are severely lacking behind the scenes. • Abuse of Trust: As owners, we were gaslit, silenced, and at times threatened for speaking up about critical systemic failures.

Pros

Pay is decent, can work remotely

Cons

Back to back patients all day with no admin time. 25 minute unpaid lunch break. No say in who you accept as patients, no ability to discharge anyone without checking with and getting approval from MD supervisor (despite MN being an Independent Practice state for NPs and not needing a collaborating MD). VERY low 401k match. Mandatory case collaboration with MD supervisor weekly, but have to work extra one day a week to make up this time, EVEN THOUGH IT IS REQUIRED. Have to see people for new patient evals even when they did not turn in any patient history forms, consents, records, etc., and at this point that is MOST of the new patient appointments. Patients can be up to 25 minutes late for eval and we are still required to see them and complete eval appointment. Pts not held to any standard or level of accountability; everything is on the provider.

Pros

You have flexibility to create your own schedule.

Cons

Ellie used to be a place where therapists would bring their unique qualities to the table and their creativity was supported and encouraged. Ellie grew too big too fast and now only cares about their bottom line and neglects the needs of their employees.
