A horrible place to work

Pros

PTO, other Support Staff Coworkers, not much else

Cons

I honestly wish I could say I was happy working here. However, due to the way management acts and works, this job has turned into a total nightmare. We have no hazard pay, for working during a pandamic, were unable to get the option to work from home, and have been micromanaged and talked down too during a highly stressful time. If we get sick, it's our PTO on the line even if it's COVID. And another bonus is the HR department is trying to discrediting all negative reviews by saying we're all disgruntled employees with excuses in the responses. Perhaps if HR was able to run smoothly people wouldn't be so stressed out.

Pros

One of the only pros I can think of, was the people that I worked with. I met fantastic coworkers who cared about doing their job well.

Cons

Unfortunately, due to lack security measures, poor compensation, mismanagement, and miscommunication, I feel like the office was about to fall apart. We were always working just to catch up, for we never had enough staff to complete each task every day. The management moved from doing a job well, to trying to check as many tasks off in one day as possible. It ultimately is harming the patient care. I truly tried to be positive while working here, but unfortunately, it became too taxing. Also, I did talk at length about my concerns during my exit interview with HR. This should not be new information.

Thank you for commenting that you had “fantastic coworkers” while you were employed with Nystrom & Associates. We are sorry to hear that you had some concerns about your employment, while you were employed here. You didn’t specify what your exact role was, other than that you were a Support Staff Specialist. I will assume you were working at the front desk. Let me respond to each of your concerns directly: 1. “Lack of security measures.” We do have security measures in place. In fact, we just rolled out training to all of our employees on safety measures. Additionally, we’ve been told by some of our providers (for example, even a Psychiatrist/Medical Doctor who has worked in the field for more than 25+ years at many different places of employment in the mental health industry) that this safety training they have had at Nystrom and the security procedures we have in place, are the most robust they have ever had in their entire careers. We take security measures for our employees and patients very seriously. You commented that you had to deal with “irate” and “verbally abusive” patients in your position. Yes, this does happen on occasion and this is something that is out of our control. What we can control, is providing our Support Staff Specialists as many tools as possible to help de-escalate any angry patient when this does occur. As part of our initial training of our new staff, we have a Licensed Psychologist who specifically helps train our staff on how best to handle these rare situations. An Office Manager or Assistant Office Manager is always on site (no more than 20 feet away from our Support Staff) to help assist whenever possible with these situations as well. We’re sorry to hear that you feel you were not equipped to satisfactorily handle a situation like this when and if it occurred. 2. “Poor Compensation.” Our current starting wages for our support staff specialist positions are $14.90 per hour. All of our staff in these roles will be given a cost of living adjustment to $15.00 per hour in August 2017. We also offer our employees a very attractive Paid Time Off structure as well as Paid Holidays including other benefits such as a generous employer match to the 401(k) plan and employer partially paid medical insurance. We’re always thinking about additional benefits to offer our employees and will continue to do so. We truly believe that the wages we pay our staff are within the industry range and are competitive for this position. 3. “Mismanagement and Miscommunication.” It’s hard to make specific comments about this when there haven’t been specific examples provided in the review. We will say that we think we do an overall good job communicating things to our staff, but we also realize too that we can always do better. Thank you for your review.

Pros

Casual Fridays, honestly, can't think of anymore pros.

Cons

Poor management, and by poor, I mean uneducated and completely unexperienced. Immature staff, if someone professional comes in, it doesn't take long for them to fall into immature trap set by others Staff rolls eyes and "chats" about patients after they leave If you like work place gossip and unprofessionalism, this is the place for you! I was embarrassed to represent this company, I felt like working here didn't advance my career Don't expect any hard work to get noticed by any upper management, they never visit or speak with anyone but OMs at each location.

Thank you for taking your time and posting a review about your experience as a Support Staff at Nystrom & Associates, Ltd. In terms of the cons that you describe in your review, we want to respond to these directly. 1. Poor management: you commented that there is “poor management” and that management is “uneducated and completely inexperienced.” Most, if not all, of our Office Managers (including our Assistant Office Managers) at each of our office locations have a college degree and also have worked their way up to their management role from starting as a Support Staff Specialist. We are proud of the fact that most of our management staff have continuously progressed in their careers at Nystrom & Associates, Ltd. to where they are today. We also take ongoing trainings for all of our staff (including management) very seriously and continue to provide ongoing training to help and equip all of our management staff with the necessary tools to help our offices run smoothly, including providing as much support to their staff as possible so our staff are engaged in their job roles. 2. Immature staff: you commented that there are “immature staff” and that staff “rolls eyes and chat about patients after they leave.” Nystrom trains all of our employees on HIPAA (patient privacy and confidentiality) policies and regulations at the time of hire and on an annual basis. We take patient confidentiality and professionalism towards our patients VERY SERIOUSLY. We are unaware of any employee laughing at patients after they leave an appointment. Nystrom has zero tolerance towards that behavior. If we became aware that an employee was disparaging or ridiculing any patient of Nystrom, we would immediately terminate employment of that staff for employment misconduct. In fact, please feel free to contact Human Resources at Nystrom so that we can investigate this further. At no time, has anyone ever brought this disturbing information to Nystrom administration. 3. Advancement opportunities: you commented that you felt like working at Nystrom “didn’t advance” your career. Many of our staff in the Support Staff position (entry level) are promoted to other areas of the organization- frequently. These decisions are based primarily on employee work ethic and job knowledge. These promotion opportunities (with significant pay increases) include job promotions to: Registration Coordinator, Patient Care Coordinator, Lead Support Staff, Assistant Office Manager and Office Manager. Also, there are other opportunities for job growth in other departments at Nystrom such as: Quality Assurance, Billing, Insurance, and others. We take pride in internal job promotions. Since you felt your hard work "went unnoticed” we are sorry to hear that. You would be encouraged to contact our Human Resources Department for more information about the decision making process for internal promotions and an honest discussion why you were not selected for advancement opportunities. We do not know fully what your issues are as you don’t list your name. We would be happy to have a direct conversation with you to hear out whatever your issues may have been or are. Thank you.
