Pros

Excellent nurses and CNA’s, professional atmosphere. Large company, so it’s easy to move around (lateral move) to different units. Diverse patient population. Wonderful house supervisors. Decent bonus pay for overtime hours (plenty of OT available on the units).

Cons

Ratio 1:5 on nights very busy progressive care unit , too busy for lunch breaks, no union, heavy lifting, seniority means nothing. No pension. 401 retirement match is only 4% . Overworked and unrecognized. WWP requires 50 weekends but doesn’t offer full time benefits. Not all unit managers are equal. Directors don’t seem to know who the bad managers are.

Pros

Some of the pros of Saint Lukes's work are excellent orientation for new graduate nurses based on personal needs, competitive pay, and fantastic management. I should add my manager is excellent - very attentive to staff, always open for honest conversations, forthcoming, and trustworthy. Additionally, Saint Luke's provides plenty of opportunities to grow as a nurse, such as continuous education, cross-training, joining different committees, quality improvement projects, tuition reimbursement, and more. A thrilling bonus to my first nursing job is a fantastic team of coworkers (90%) whom we work well with.

Cons

Some days were not "so hot" with nurses being short-staffed, on total patient care, or with only one CNA for 12 patients. Pandemic exposed all of the weak spots healthcare has been having - nurse to patient ratios, higher acuity of patients, short staffing. A lot of nurses getting burned out the very first year of nursing.

Pros

Saint Luke's billing office has flex scheduling and you can work whatever hours you choose between 6am and 6pm. After 6mo of employment you're eligible to telecommute and equipment is provided.

Cons

When SLHS is closed on major holidays you have to use your PTO to get paid. If you don't have PTO then your time off is without pay. Also you cannot use your stick time until you've used 3 consecutive days of PTO.
