Pros

Great company culture. Good work life balance. Smart developers with good problem solving skills. Great career growth opportunities. Planning of work is better than most other companies that I have come across.

Cons

Hybrid Engineering has pros and cons. However, in Indy, the strategy for hybrid transition is causing a significant loss in engineering productivity. First, Pros: 1.) Hybrid engineering has brought more focus on using contemporary tools for automated testing. 2.) This helps in improving system reliability and make developers better at their jobs since testing is not considered an afterthought anymore. 3.) Huge investment in automated testing upfront is a good overall strategy that will help in system scalability and reduce buggy software releases. Cons: 1.) The idea for depending more on automated testing than on manual testing has translated into demanding all manual / semi manual qa testers to learn how to code. 2.) This is the strategy that has not panned out at all. While, the self help tools like online courses, mentoring resources and in-team guidance have been a proactive ongoing effort, this approach is taking massive hits on productivity for developers as well as for testers all around. 3.) You can find developers on any given day spending quite a bit of time (hours at times) going over basic step by step process (over and over again) with the testers to resolve minority non-mission critical bugs. 4.) Testers, especially who are not from a programming background / havent coded in a while, are overwhelmed and stressed out about the tickets they have to complete each sprint. 5.) For a company that champions engineering productivity and no interruption time for developers, developers are spending less time on quality features/innovative/disruptive work and more time getting bogged down by the process+manual testing+ incremental work . Dont get me wrong, the notion of ohana is embedded deep in the organization and engineers are glad to help their peers anytime. However, this is a massive hit on productivity.

Pros

I love that we are given 7 days of Volunteer Time Off (VTO) and there's donation matching up to $5k (if you complete all your hours). Depending on your team/manager/department, you can get a decent work/life balance. The company tries to encourage gender equality and diversify the workforce. There's a lot of talk about Ohana (Hawaiian for family). Great benefits.

Cons

So, a lot of the gender equality and Ohana talk I mentioned earlier is just talk. It's marketing so that people want to work here. I haven't seen or felt any difference in Gender Bias. My skip level has taken internal training yet hasn't made any progress towards adjusting his attitude towards women. The CEO is a bit of a diva. A genius, but a diva. Managers need more training. Promotion cycles suck. Managers have to trash other nominees in order to get their direct reports promoted.

Thanks for your thoughtful review. We elevated Equality to be a core value at Salesforce because we want to make sure that all employees feel seen, heard, valued and included regardless of their age, race or ethnicity, gender identity, sexual orientation or religious affiliation. This is something we genuinely care about and are always looking for ways to improve. If you have any feedback on how we can do better, please do give it to us in the employee survey. Or, if you're comfortable, please reach out to me directly to discuss your experience.

Pros

Decent Office Energy Clean Space Decent benefits for a single person Integrated downtown SF "campus" Good tech help desk to help with company issued phone and computer

Cons

Support roles are significantly underpaid Vertical movement is often spoken about, but opportunities seem to get presented to select people -- whereas, everyone on the same team should have the opportunity to prove themselves Support roles especially require monotonous work that is necessary for business function but goes unrecognized Lot's of hype in the news about #1 company to work for, but does not feel like the #1 company once employed by Salesforce.com. Opportunities elsewhere seem to have better compensation and recognition for similar positions. Culture and values are not embraced in the day to day. Leadership does not always seem informed.

Thanks for taking the time to review your experience at Salesforce. If you're comfortable, I'd recommend speaking with your manager, an Employee Success Business Partner or myself about the concerns you've outlined. We want to make sure that every one of our Ohana members has a great experience here — please let us know how we can help.
