Pros

Occasionally free products and easy to follow training videos

Cons

Extremely low wage and never rates above "meets standards" in employee review despite telling you otherwise. The yearly raise you receive is given 1-3 months late and is less than 1% and is not accounted for if minimum wage raises the next month. Extremely toxic environment and management that heavily lacks accountability, organization, motivation or leadership skills. Late shifts with little to no customers and often made to work alone and/or with no proper coverage Expected to give every customer an in-depth consultation even if you are scheduled to work alone, on top of completing merchandising and operations tasks Expected to constantly harass customers into buying more product, buying from multiple sales, unnecessary add ons...etc to boost UPTs and sales. Workers are often pitted against each other for higher numbers and as you are expected to multitask and stay near customers, often times another coworker or manager may take the basket you have been helping to build for 20+ minutes. Upper management is very uninvolved with the stores and will not even remember your name or who you are after 1-2 years of working there. Store visits are virtual. Tech problems are incredibly slow to get fixed. Constant issues with items low in stock. Incredibly outdated system and operations are spread across at least 6 different applications. Managers who show up late/leave early and have associates clock them out at their scheduled time. Overall not great role models or examples. No room for growth and will play favourites with new hires instead of acknowledging any sort of seniority.

Pros

Free Samples (when they’re feeling generous) Part time qualifies for insurance benefits right away & vacation time

Cons

I’ve worked for Sally since March 2024. I moved up from a standard Beauty Advisor to a Keyholder/Certified Color Consultant. There’s zero financial incentive to take on this role. I make the same as when I started, $13 an hour - the same as any new person walking in despite all of the added responsibilities. They act like it’s a badge of honor to get this position, but the only plus (and this is my DM’s words) is “it’s a great addition to your resume”, which just tells me they’re not trying to keep people long term in itself. The numbers they expect you to maintain is outrageous. If you’re buying color, that customer better have at least 6 add-ons! Gotta make sure all customers check out with 4+ items or it hurts your numbers. In what world is this a realistic expectation? Read the room - people can barely afford school supplies and groceries and most of our customers are shopping on a budget. We can’t upsell to people who literally don’t have the money. Your hours are supposed to be based off of your performance, but that’s a huge running joke. I’ve been our stores top performer consistently, outperforming our GM in most cases. And I just put my 2 weeks in because I’m over it. Not to mention the 15 hours vacation time I’ve earned has magically disappeared from the app after I tried to claim them. Your a number to this company. Nothing more, maybe less.
