Pros

Sick and vacation leave. Tuition reimbursement

Cons

Reduction in benefits. No merit pay raises. Terrible upper management. Bad employees are moved around rather than being disciplined or discharged.

Pros

Salt Lake County, like most government work, had great benefits and retirement. Also has a decent career ladder for professional positions. Beware that some of those benefits have been widdled away over the last few years.

Cons

Positions with the county can be very political. Also, instead of singling out lazy or unruly employees, county would just change policy to affect everyone. That's pretty lousy for those of us who work hard.
