Pros

The pay for being a cashier is overall decent, at least much better in comparison to other cashier positions in major retail chains. If you're lucky, you get some chill co-workers and supervisors for your shift. You meet some cool regulars and customers that are friendly. You get 10% discounts on fresh produce and a free membership. Descent temporary job or summer job for 18-year-olds and up. Also, the hourly manager compensates you very well if you need days/weeks off cause she respects you as a human being.

Cons

You sign up expecting a cashier position, that's it but no. The turnover rate is enormous so you have to expect to be constantly short-staff even on quiet days. Expect to be put in departments or positions you did not even sign up for because management could not care less about having enough people. Some supervisors are corporate brain rots that only see you as money makers to sell credit cards and upgraded plus memberships to please their god CEOs who also do nothing but enforce the most buffoonery policies cause you know they never spent a single second in a retail position. We can't even make store closing announcements anymore cause why? A single devasted customer felt "threaten" that they needed to leave the store AT CLOSING TIME. Now, the closing shift people have no choice but to stare at idiotic customers leisurely shopping half past closing while barely having time to clean and restock before their shift ends, and oh no who gets reprimanded the next day because they did not complete everything? Get expected to learn all new types of slurs coming your way at customer services cause the moment you put on your uniform, you are worth less than an insect to customers if you did not please them for a second millisecond. When you see your co-workers resign/leave for good, you can't help but feel proud and jealous for them escaping this battlefield of a job.

Pros

Good starting pay with work credits Great benefits, dental, vision, health, 401k and stock

Cons

Advancement based on manager preference Promotion to management is based on demographics, ie white military for older white neighborhoods, black managers for low income/EBT areas and NOT tenure “In retail business comes before family” August thru December
