Pros

- Smartest colleagues and team members - Great benefits - Remote first flexibility

Cons

- Recruiting strategy: they only care about butts in seats but not strategy like A/B testing, carefully crafting InMail responses, recruiter development, DEI. They will say things like they care about diversity but if you have a role open for more than a month, the hammer comes down to just hit your numbers. - Headcount planning: foreign concept at this company. One day you don’t have reqs and think you are going to be laid off, the next you are drowning. - Leadership: the recruiting leadership here is awful. If you want a human leadership team who prioritizes people first, job second, run the other way. It starts with the top down whose only frame of reference is working at Amazon. If you want to grow your career but don’t speak numbers and are not a robot, you’ll get passed up for opportunities. The org only optimizes for speed and does not care about the people in their recruiting organization. Constantly puts people down and creates a toxic work environment. Recently launched a culture handbook that doubles down on a hustle culture. Once opportunities open up, I guarantee half the recruiting organization will no longer be here. People are only here because it’s a terrible market for recruiting and people are stuck.

Thank you for taking the time to leave a review. We are committed to creating a workplace where everyone feels valued and supported—while we have made great strides in this area, we know there is more work to be done. One of our top priorities is to build an inclusive workplace culture by attracting, retaining, and developing diverse talent at all levels. We move fast and appreciate your feedback regarding pace, strategy, and development. This year, one of the Recruiting OKRs is to create scalable programs that offer new development opportunities and skill up-leveling. If you have any ideas of what we can do to improve in these areas, we ask you to reach out to your People Partner or use the Reporting and Feedback Hotline.

Pros

- You meet some awesome people, unfortunately almost all of them leave (turn over rate is much higher than you'd expect at all levels) - benefits were awesome before covid, now there is a small stipend for health and basic tech benefits (health care, dental) - Great at hosting diversity and inclusion events

Cons

- Salary is not competitive with industry average, you are lead to believe the RSU's you are granted help to make up your salary when in reality the math does not add up, and leadership knows it wont be challenged because the promise is that Samsara is the next Workday and stock will triple in the coming years - Company costs are saved by not hiring as aggressively as they should in order to keep up with workload. The longer someone stays at the company the more work they will be given without more than one promotion every 2 years (if that) - Most finance team members CANNOT ever take time off the last week or first week of the month, meaning your PTO is extremely limited. If it is around EOQ you can forgot any PTO for 4 weeks - Senior leaders treat employees as resources, not people. You are also talked over and seen as less by several persons of leadership on the team - There are absolutely no career paths. I've never worked somewhere with such little help for growth especially considering this is one of the top rated places to work - Managers with no knowledge are hired above people who have to train the managers when others should likely have been promoted - I have worked on more than one team while at Samsara and these statements are true for every single team

Thank you for your feedback. Earlier this year, we completed a review of compensation across the whole organization and updated our compensation philosophy. We’ve updated our total compensation target to be in the Top 25% of all hardware and software companies and refreshed our compensation approach to include more ways to reward company and individual performance. We are hoping this will make us attract and retain top talent for the years to come. Leadership development is also a focus area for the people team this year. In addition to the foundational manager training we offer through LifeLabs to all of our managers, we have recently implemented a mandatory 6-month leadership principles training course led by our CEO. We also have all our managers attend inclusion training. Your feedback is important - if you have further ideas on how we can improve in this area, please reach out to a member of our leadership team.

Pros

For those who have been in the company for two years or more the price of the stock has skyrocketed and it is too expensive to leave it.

Cons

Engineers are under great pressure and unhappy. Tenured engineers have been leaving recently and management downplays the significance. Comp is only part of the issue. Other employees say that we need to hire new engineers to replace all the departing engineers so that our company value can continue increasing. Recruiting increased the referral bonus because we encountered difficulties in hiring and they hope we'll dupe our friends to join. The IPO cannot happen soon enough.
