Pros
Most companies have these long mission statements, and core value statements that are seldom close to the truth. SEL walks the talk. Ed Schweitzer started a company 30 years ago, where the Employee Owners have a voice in all aspects of the business. This is counter-cultural to most entrepreneurs, and certainly traditional Electrical and Automation companies, but it works. You really define your own career path at SEL. There are tons of opportunities for personal development, new challenges. Academic achievement not only encouraged but celebrated at SEL.
Cons
Like a lot of larger companies, SEL has challenges managing change in a timely manner. Consensus sometimes slows decision making, but not always is a bad thing.
