Pros

Science some great perks, including free lunch and dinner if you work late, a pet-friendly office, and a nice building. The unlimited PTO policy is a plus, and the organization embraces a growth mindset, continuously improving over time. The product and science behind it are genuinely exciting, and the people here are incredibly smart.

Cons

The company is fully in-office with no hybrid option, which may not suit everyone. The CEO is highly visionary and driven, though their communication style can be direct, which may feel intimidating to some. Similarly, some leaders have room to grow in their people skills, as their approach can sometimes come across as blunt. New Leadership has come in and been working to bring more structure and organization.

Pros

Talented coworkers. Excellent food and facilities. Some teams maintain a strong culture.

Cons

First of all, my original review got removed by Science Corp. but that is expected from Science. Here's my revised review: Leadership Issues: The leadership, from the CEO to the head of operations, is manipulative, toxic, and unprofessional, with operations often acting like a corporate enforcement arm. Exclusive Culture: The core team fosters a cliquey and exclusive environment, alienating others. High Turnover: There is a recurring pattern of hiring for short-term projects and terminating employees once the need is gone, with particularly high turnover among racial minorities. Unprofessional Onboarding: Contrary to other likely fabricated reviews, the onboarding process was one of the most unprofessional experiences. The HR lead, known for being sadistic, unhelpful, insecure, and argumentative, was particularly rude and unprofessional. Lack of Stability: The company lacks a vision, structure and certainty, with frequent project changes, acquisitions, and layoffs disrupting employees' roles. Exploitation of Employees: Many non-core employees are dismissed within months, indicating issues with the hiring process and a disregard for the impact of these decisions. Bridge Burning: The company, particularly HR, has a history of burning bridges with employees, a practice seemingly endorsed by upper management. Leadership may justify these actions as necessary for success, but they ultimately contribute to a toxic work environment. Lack of Vision: The company suffers from a lack of a clear and consistent vision. Its primary focus appears to be raising capital rather than delivering meaningful products. Despite raising hunderds of millions of $, and spending over $40 million, the only substantial output has come from acquisitions and the products they ship, which is a significant red flag for its long-term viability. Incompetent Management: A significant portion of middle management lacks technical competence and essential management skills.

A toxic environment

Pros

Initially this company had a lot of money which allowed us to work on / build some really great things. But as time went on, we spent all that money and we had to tighten up our belts. There are many great ICs here, leaders not so much.

Cons

I should preface this by saying I’ve worked at Startups, change of direction is completely understandable. Science has its fair share of direction changes. BUT, what is not okay is that Science is a very dangerous place for your mental health. You feel bad about taking time off and are often punished for it. The leads of many teams are phd graduates who have never shipped a product. The ceo is extremely incapable of having normal interactions with people and often screams and is very hostile. The Ops team leads have no clue what they are doing, and belittle HR situations. Science is a dumpster fire you don’t want to be in. Do not work here and don’t be fooled by the new office that they can’t afford and will be losing any moment now.
