      Pros

      Wealth of personal development, the volunteers are great, fantastic for making connections.

      Cons

      60+hours a week...lied to in an interview about this. Management in Del-Mar-Va Council was verbally abusive to the point of creating a hostile work environment. Was asked to spy on other employees. Absolutely no training from management. Unreasonable expectations for District Executives. Expected to be on call 24 hours a day under certain management. Poor ethical and completely unacceptable behavior from those in leadership roles.

      Pros

      Awesome dedicated volunteers Working with youth Should be a chance to try new ideas but the archaic "Mad Men" style of leadership prevents any creativity

      Cons

      Not much more to add that hasn't already been stated. Sales Job leadership and management work on scare tactics and disrespect They Scout execs are for the most part narcissistic dictators that would make Stalin proud No sense of work/life balance Many of the leaders are okay with "managing the truth" out of pocket expenses management refuses to use modern commo technology which could save hours of time and $$$

      Pros

      A somewhat flexible schedule that allows you to vary your work schedule. Working with a lot of different people and building relationships with volunteers. Seeing kids you've recruited into the program learning and having fun at various events. While I no longer work for the Boy Scouts of America I am still an active volunteer and believe in the program.

      Cons

      During Fall Recruitment, Popcorn Season, and FOS season you will work insane hours including nights and weekends with no extra compensation. There will be weeks were you don't ever have a day off and work 16 hour days. The council I worked for didn't properly train their employees and then belittled them for not doing their jobs. Each council operates differently which makes it difficult to assess the organization as a whole. When hired everyone starts as a district executive which is the lowest paying but highest work volume position.
