Pros

The company provides their own training and you can get it without any prior experience. If you are someone's favorite a pro for you is usually a promotion because favoritism is a thing. The doctors that you work with can be some of the best people and they can help you in so many ways in deciding what to do with your future.

Cons

The leadership goes unchecked. Chief scribes and project leaders do what they want with no repercussions. You could try and go above them, but that's joke because they only use diplomatic language to provide excuses. There is a probationary period that seems unnecessary and they don't tell you about it until you have to sign a contract for it. Did I mention it pays 2.00 dollars less than what you are expecting to get paid? And it's so funny that the number one complaint is pay and their HR has a diplomatic response every time that is just a cop out. They play favorites. If you don't suck up to the leadership or if they don't just automatically like you...you will be a minimum wage scribe forever. It's pointless to fight it because again they have excuses for everything. This company likes to pretend that they are so amazing and maybe they are the most used scribe company...but that by no means says that they are the best. They have a long way to go before they are the best. That's like saying because McDonald's is a huge burger chain...they have the best burgers around...HAHA.

Good Opportunity ruined by immature "Chief Scribes"....

Pros

If you are going into the medical field this is a great position. It gives you a chance to get a "behind the scenes look" of how an ER runs. Many of the doctor and nurses are great! The doctors are willing to use many situations as learning opportunities when it is not busy. Scheduling is flexible so as long as your schedule is submitted early and REASONABLE, getting off needed days was easy! The amount of medical knowledge you obtain is AMAZING!!!!!! It doesnt take long to learn meds, lab orders, procedures, etc. Many doctors are helpful with making sure the EMR is correct!! If you make a mistake they will help!

Cons

The training process is a joke!!!! Having a chief scribe reading powerpoint slides to me is really ineffective. I can read on my own!! Just because someone has the title of "chief scribe" doesnt mean that person knows how to explain or effectively train another. I mean, I have seen people who were supposed to be training others on the phone, texting boyfriends, on Facebook and other things that are supposed to be "inappropriate". During downtime, they should be working with trainees instead of being on the "your on your own"mantra without explanations of mistakes. I have seen other scribes yell at trainees for "asking too many questions". Isnt that what training is for? Then turn around and tell a new scribe that "they didnt ask the dr enough questions". Some chief scribes treatment of new scribes is downright insulting and embarrassing. There is a difference in someone being firm verses being berated at the nurses station in front of everyone! It truly is ridiculous!! I believe trainers should be people in the company like the project leaders not someone who has been there a few months and doesnt know how to train. The people in the head offices have NO idea what goes on when no one is looking.... With any job, some coworkers are nice but most just seem to be there to kiss the doctors butt in hopes of getting the infamous LOR. The doctors and nurses seem to be more accepting of making mistakes than Chief Scribes! No one is perfect! I have seen the chief scribes make many mistakes themselves so I dont understand why they are so harsh with new scribes.

ScribeAmerica Response

The ScribeAmerica paid training program has proven enormously successful over the course of the company's growth, and is constantly being updated based on changing needs. Those employees with the responsibility of training others are regularly evaluated for continued competency and quality assurance. Training locations are varied based on the facility's availability, and at times leadership will change the training environment for the benefit of the employees. A certain portion of the training program certainly places the burden on the employee to be engaged, maintain focus, self-teach, and retain the applicable material. Though some employees may not see the value of the classroom training portion of the program, it is essential in building the foundations of successful floor training (or clinical training) due to the focus on medical terminology, orientation to the industry, and practice scenarios. Success in our training program is directly correlated to the commitment of the employee to learn in even the most challenging of environments - after all, medical facilities are fast-paced and dynamic environments that change dramatically and frequently. Only those employees who can successfully navigate through perceived distractions and deficiencies will find success as a medical scribe and be suitable for a potential future career in the medical field.

Pros

You'll get paid once or twice for your trouble

Cons

This company is actually a scam - they profit from keeping people on the payroll, using certain remote work tools, and enjoying their tax breaks. I was hired twice - once for $11 an hour and once for $17 an hour. Doing the same job. I had so many supervisors, but not a single one could tell me what was going on and why it took 4 months after completing ScribeU to be assigned to a site. The root of all my problems with the company is that no work was available, even though they reached out to me with an offer. My manager told me that an outside company sends blind leads for new hires, negotiates pay, and then ScribeAmerica is notified and you start after signing with that 3rd party and getting a background check through yet another business. They sent me a laptop/monitor/mouse/headphones, all arriving on different days in different packages, but I had not been assigned a work site. Then they expected me to take time to get a drug test in a town 400 miles away, because that was the closest LabCorp location to me. When I reached out to my manager, it took 2 weeks for her to find out that I could go to the local walk-in clinic and get a drug test AND a COVID vaccine, because my site required it -- I was 100% remote. They had no idea I had ever been previously hired until I informed my manager after 4 months of employment. The entire operation stinks to high heaven.
