College Engineering Club, but you're getting paid

Pros

Cool projects, you get the opportunity to make engineering decisions and have ownership early on. You'll learn a lot. Opportunities to work in many fields (although the majority of projects are aerospace-related, since the founders are from SpaceX). Growing presence in non-space industries. People are open, willing to chat & help but also very busy. Engineering club vibes - a little shoestringy, but everyone's really going for it.

Cons

If you loved your engineering club, this is the place for you. If you didn't enjoy that, this is probably not for you. There's very little structure. The least aggressive people get stuck with all of the paperwork/organizational tasks. Projects vary a lot, some are great, some are stressful, and/or not that fun. Pay is on the low side. Company (including leadership) is made up of mostly young guys without families. Managers are inexperienced, more skilled as tech leads than people managers.

Pros

The projects are very diverse and you may work on Aerospace, automotive, consumer products and medical devices all in the same year which is awesome. You get to work with a team of engineers from different disciplines and expand your knowledge.

Cons

No Cons, must be willing to grow with the company.

Pros

- You get to work on some of the coolest engineering problems in the industry. - Small teams allow you to have autonomy and work on more parts of a system. - There is opportunity here to try new project roles, you could work on ME/EE/FW/SW/Test/Systems Engineering/Project Management/etc, and the leadership here works to build a path for employees to move into roles they are interested in. - SOE invests a lot of time and money in employees. Letting them make mistakes and learn from them. Sacrificing profit margin for long term growth of the business, employees, and community. - The high level leadership cares very deeply about building the right business. Supporting and enabling employees.

Cons

- We are a small business so we have to wear a lot of hats. - When we are in a hard spot we have to get ourselves out of it, there is no "corporate" or other divisions to bail us out. - We don't have the resources of a large company, we can't just buy a new building/equipment/etc so we have to be flexible and creative. - The pains of a growing business are evident with the infrastructure needing to be built as it is needed. This can also be a pro because as employees we are building the systems we have to use and that will support us and our teams.
