Pros

Benefits, Stability, and Pay are unmatched for recent college grads. Life work balance is great, hardly ever have to work more than 40 hours in a week.

Cons

A much older work force, not very progressive, very conservative environment. Hardly any recognition for work done and limited opportunities for progression.

Pros

The overall experience I have had at Securian as been great. The culture of the company is really good and I have found most of my coworkers very easy to get along with. I trust this company to make good decisions and have seen it thrive through tough economic times. We haven't had any layoffs in IT, which I have found very impressive and reassuring since I am fairly new to the company. For the first 3 months in IT you start in training. This training gets you all set for your team and is basically a recap of all of your computer science courses in college. The training helps for an easy transition from school to work, especially if you have little to no experience working IT for a company.

Cons

The only downside to Securian is that it seems like it will take a while to get promotions. Its a fairly conservative company and has a low turnover ratio. These are good things, but lead to less movement in the company because the company is growing, but at a slow and consistant rate, so new positions don't open very often. Since there is low turnover, the only way to move up is if someone is promoted or retires.
