Pros

The people at the company that you work with on a day to day basis are great. Good benefits for as long as they let you keep them.

Cons

Company runs like any other business. Will make business decisions with little to no care about how it affects the workers. They won't hesitate to sell a portion of the company and ship your job somewhere else that doesn't have nearly as good of retirement benefits so Securian's benefits aren't as much as a draw as they seem. Below industry level pay.

Pros

I felt safe when working from home. I have many friends here.

Cons

Poor execution plan of the sale of the Retirement division. We were not given the time needed to prepare for this more. A lot of people had to work on their vacations and missed out on spending time with their families over the holidays. Several employees did not get their much deserved retirement party. Employees who were close to retirement now have to work more years to get their full pension. I worry for my friends that still work there.

Decent Company

Pros

- Great PTO - Hybrid work - Flexibility is great (this is not true for all positions)

Cons

- HR takes forever even for internal applicants. Extremely hard to get promoted even with glowing performance reviews - Securian constantly boasts about their benefits, but many other companies also have similar benefits (Profit Sharing ends up being equivalent to a match) - Bonuses only for higher-up employees - Received additional job responsibilities which should have led to a promotion. Received praise like “good job” and “you’re a great asset to this company” instead. - Going above and beyond generally doesn’t pay off. Low merit increases even when you produce more than double the average employee in your position.
