Pros

Hard working and decades group of employees, unfortunately, the amount of time put into the job is not recognized or acknowledged (definitely not a pro).

Cons

The absolute worse work/life balance I've ever experienced in a job. Workload is impossible. The computer systems is surprisingly antiquated for a company of Selective's stature. Simple adjustments and fixes could be implemented to improve efficiency but are completely overlooked and ignored, perhaps, because no one has time to review or are afraid to stand up for the employees. You simply can't expect employees to work the assigned case load and do a good job!

Pros

Everyone is highly valued from interns to senior management. Most decisions are made by committee with all angles being thoroughly vetted. Anyone can propose an idea and it will be treated as if it came from the CEO.

Cons

Because everyone's thoughts are valued, a singular veto from any stakeholder can prevent progress. Meetings are numerous to gain buy-in.

Pros

You were given real assignments and exposure to management. You felt like your job was pretty safe and no one was nipping at your heals to take it away from you. They were willing to pay for some of my graduate school work which i was grateful for. Health Benefits/401K were definitely top of the line.

Cons

Salary was not even at market average, there was not much regard to the work/life balance. Was never given the opportunity to work from home, didn't even have a laptop which in 2013 is pretty unheard of.
