Pros

The residents and the department heads are wonderful humans. Hearing and sharing the stories of our elders is what it is truly about!

Cons

This company has grown too big too fast with little regard for those making them successful, and it is not those sitting in big offices near the Michigan Mile. The corporate structure appears to be one of greed and bullying and understand a hostile work environment leading to the quick departure of many many corporate players. Although some of the regional team is supportive, with so many communities to support they really cannot adequately focus on anything more than crisis management which sends a poor message. There seems to be a real disconnect with the company's core values and what they truly believe. It is disheartening because I have believed in this company from day one and bought in to the idea that they truly wanted to do the right thing for all those they serve.

Pros

I work with good people who try their best at nearly everything they do. About three years ago when the company was run by Mr. Caplan Sr., I saw energy, cohesiveness and a caring team. Not now. The kid has taken over and day by day, things are getting worse.

Cons

Upper management bringing in "has beens" from Emeritus and Brookdale. Most of us left those companies because the culture was going down the tubes. Now look what's happened...you've recycled those "has beens" and you hired them because they are cheap. All the talented managers and directors are getting grabbed up by other competitors quickly. Pretty soon, SLC will be a thing of the past.
