Be Careful of Favorable Reviews

Pros

Money. They paid well but not that great. Annual raises were minuscule and they were not generous with bonuses.

Cons

I spent more than 10 years with Sensient and these favorable reviews do NOT reflect the company I worked for all those years. The company I worked for was fine if you didn't mind be over-supervised, denigrated and treated very poorly. They pay well because they couldn't retain quality personnel otherwise. Over a period of 5 years, every quality person (sales, manufacturing, customer service, even clerical) left for other pursuits and none has said they were not happier. Be careful of these favorable reviews, They don't reflect reality and are probably "plants" by a very duplicious management team

Phony Reviews

Pros

The best part of Sensient is leaving it. EVERYBODY that I know is happy about leaving this incredibly toxic place to work.

Cons

Be VERY skeptical of positive reviews about this company. I bet virtually all the positive reviews are solicited by upper management and issued under orders from the HR departments of the different divisions. This kind of duplicity is "par-for-the-course" for upper management at Sensient.; they always need to control ALL opinions about the company. All the positive reviews list as a negative something that an aggressive business professional might take as a positive..."very forma all the time" or "extremely high-paced business environment" or incredible support from upper management"". Milwaukee (and the Mannings) micromanage everything at the divisions. The stock price is built on a deck of cards - with all the major food manufacturers eliminating artificial FD&C food colors (a major product of the color division), the total control of SENSIENT pricing by HP of ink jet colors (another major product of the color division), the disorganization of the Flavor Division due to the incredibly unwise move from Indiana to Illinois and the loss of many critical manufacturing and sales personnel due to dissatisfaction with the company.

Cultural Issues

Pros

There are some good people in the organization and they pay pretty well. Indianapolis was a good location for a headquarters, but no longer.

Cons

Awful Culture. In the three years I worked there I had six different supervisors due to constant turn over. I saw two group presidents terminated, two directors of engineering terminated and one quit, half a dozen general managers terminated, plant mangers with a typical lifespan of less than two years, etc.... The organization runs on constant fear of upsetting those in charge. Remaining locations after the Indy closure are not desirable for attracting and retaining quality employees.
