Pros

Gratis - free products to use & try, often full sized, and lots of deluxe samples. Decent discount policy.

Cons

Little to no chance of growth within the company. Depending on the store and how they are doing financially, stores are often understaffed, which doesn't help anyone. Employees are frazzled, because there is one employee to 15-20 clients who all need extremely detailed help that'll take an hour long. Clients are annoyed because they aren't getting helped. Clients and employees are annoyed at the register, because the wait time is so long, and when clients come in with $500 worth of returns all on different receipts, that makes the wait time even longer. The Beauty Insider perks are becoming increasingly worse as the years go by. Clients will let employees know frequently as if we can change the system. Horrendous clientele who are far too demanding and expect you to do so much more than what you are being paid for: 1. act as a nanny & teacher to their children; 2. drop everything you're doing (like ringing people up with a line 30 people deep) and do their makeup for free while 10 other people are waiting to get their makeup done for free; 3. treat you like you are a PsyD therapist and unload all of their intricate emotional issues on you and expect you to heal them; 4. expect you to be an attorney and give them legal advice for free; 5. they assume that employees have the same power as the CEO and can change how the beauty insider system works on the spot, or magically put something on sale because they saw it on sale on Amazon two years ago, or that we have the power to knock down stores surrounding us to make the store bigger, or that it's our fault that we no longer sell a brand (that we stopped selling 6 years ago) and we can immediately make it appear in store that day.

Pros

I personally worked with some excellent people - I worked at the Sephora Inside JCPenney, which is a much smaller group of girls and are tightly knit. Gratis every month. Time goes by quickly. Bonuses if you make your monthly goal. Opportunity to move up and grow. It's fun doing makeup and getting to play!

Cons

It's retail. It's stressful. Being happy all the time is a requirement, which can be tiring if you are not feeling it on a particular day. Customers can be challenging or rude. Music gets extremely annoying. Low pay for the hard work.
