Pros

I would have given a 5 star rating if it weren't for the last 6months. Working for Sephora was fun, exciting, empowering, and inspiring.

Cons

While work/life balance is a value, I don't believe this was practiced very well by upper management.

Pros

The best part of the job are the amazing people you will meet. From all walks of life, and all personality types, I've met them all. You get a great discount, and tons of free product. You also have to have zero cosmetic experience...if you have a passion and an interest, they will teach you everything about everything. Even though the provided uniform may not be that cute, I do like that they provide one for you- you never need to go shopping for work clothes, or worry about what to wear. There are plenty of opportunities for advancement...but they don't do so quickly! In most cases you have to be with the company for a number of years before you get a significant promotion.

Cons

The policies, regulations, etc. are CONSTANTLY changing. Just when you get used to something one way, they change it on you. Again. For being an LVMH company, the pay is not very competitive, (compared to our big competition like MAC) and the raises they give are generally small. Development happens, but is incredibly rare.

Pros

Gratis and elevated training. Very challenging and fast paced. Amazing make up brands and skincare. It's a mecca of products. The training for hourly employees is excellent. Most employees use Sephora's training as a stepping stone to freelance and learn advanced make up application. Development.

Cons

Lack of role models in upper management. No room for advancement even though you are told about endless opportunities and growth. Only big markets have multiple locations. The highest level is Store Director and that's it! Most managers are overworked filled with unrealistic goals and expectations. Promotions are rare unless you are someone's favorite pet or willing to relocate which most people are not. Who can afford to relocate for an hourly job??? There is so much grey that upper management manipulates policies to fit their agendas. There is no clear set standard for everyone. Decisions are made on an individual basis and if you are favored, they will overlook being lazy, calling off and basically getting paid to not work.
