Pros

Good pay for management employees. But pay isn't everything. I honestly can't think of may reasons to work for Shaw.

Cons

Long hours, no recognition, old school management mentality. Upper management call hourly folks "EE's". Large separation and disconnect between the front office and the floor. Department managers definitely have their favorites and ass kissing is in full effect here. Lots of unwritten rules concerning vacation and sick-days. The work itself is mind-numbing...for hourly and management employees. Horrible work-life balance...two on two off three on two off. It goes on and on. Professional relationships between supervisors is unnecessarily strained and overly-competitive.

Pros

The best reason to work there was mainly the opportunities for overtime. They would allow you to work all day if you wanted. This is very beneficial when you work rotating shifts. There are always opportunities for overtime due to the mis-management and mis-direction from corporate caused the retention to always be high.

Cons

The shift work can be tiresome. But there are many who do the shiftwork for decades and turn out okay.

Pros

Shaw is a very stable company with a history of being innovative and cutting-edge. The resources available to both employees and departments are quite numerous. Management training is ongoing and in most cases, the company's core values are emphasized and maintained. Most employees at the company seem to enjoy what they do and work well with other individuals and departments. With regards to operations, there is a high level of autonomy to run the operation as the manager sees fit. With that comes a high level of responsibility. The benefit package is fair - not the best but better than many.

Cons

Shaw is a very large corporation, and as with any large organization, internal politics can get in the way of sound management. In my opinion, this takes place most often in the middle management levels as many of these managers are climbing the ladder as quickly as they can, and politicking can be an effective way to speed the climb. From an operations perspective, there is a lot of responsibility to run the operation and this responsibility can carry with it considerable stress from time to time. In many cases, the rate of pay may not seem proportional to the amount of responsibility and stress a job places on the individual.
