Pros

Shure provides a welcoming environment with people who are helpful, dedicated, and supportive. Having worked at a handful of other companies, and wanting to find a place I could devote my career path to, I know I have found a place to stay. The excitement of the industry flows through the halls of the corporate building, which has so many unique features to compliment the company's focus of quality. There is always something going on to celebrate an occasion, and trainings are constantly provided to develop skills and knowledge. Company values, financial strength, and a team I can count on and grow with, are at the top of my list for why Shure is an incredible place to work.

Cons

In my area of work, there is nothing I would feel the need to mention.

Management - Do as I say...

Pros

Working with peers in the trenches is rewarding and 90% of the product delvelopment team works hard to meet schedules/goals. A great amount of sharing knowledge and experiences.

Cons

Schedules are dictated from the top down. You are asked to jump and the only valid response is "how high". As the economy is starting to recover, you can see few people starting to leave to better their careers / working situation. Soon this will become the norm and Shure will loose a lot of their more experienced / dedicated workers. The ones that will stay will be the ones with broken spirit with no motivation to change their situation.

Pros

Decent work/life balance - people get in and out during normal business hours Incredibly cool building to work in, interesting environment and occasionaly celeb musician visit Great industry reputation Most people are pretty nice and dedicated

Cons

Culture is stuck in the 50s - worse than typical "corporate" environment - decisionmaking is slower than slow, and further hampered by the fact that every single decision is forced to escalate clear up to the owner (including things like color of napkins to have at company events) Building/environment are far cooler than anyone in the company, so its completely misleading when you first visit for interviews Too many "lifers" who would be unemployable anywhere else and are too stubborn to accept change or modernize the policies and practices Company owner only cares about preserving the founder's legacy and making sure the 30+ year veterans have a pension plan. Newer employees with new, fresh ideas and ways of thinking are "second-class citizens" Very different environments if you work on the product or marketing side v. corporate functions Turnover comes from the squashing of innovation - all the smart people figure out quickly that they'll never accomplish anything here and hit the road
