Pros

You will learn to use "Dear" to headline every email.

Cons

The Owner constantly micromanages all employees and create hostility within the company via passive aggressive emails, verbal abuse and harassment of female employees regarding “proper” (read: 1950’s-era) behavior and dress to ensure women remain “fit and trim”. The Owner often expressed inappropriate behavior and sexist comments nonchalantly as if observing the weather. Think “Should our black employees get Martin Luther King Jr. day off?” and “You look so large” or “What a bowling ball you have” referring to pregnant employees. The Owner's spouse is particularly heinous; she tracks the movement of employees in and out of the office at all times, verbally denigrates female employees behind their backs and is the master of passive-aggressive harassment. The Owner seemingly does not understand how technology works (he proudly uses a flip phone and doesn’t understand texting) or how modern companies should function in the digital age (going “paper-less” in the workplace is completely foreign, as is teleworking). The Owner cares more about maintaining a certain façade than employee well-being and satisfaction. If you are a Kings Point graduate you can do no wrong and are treated like the Second Coming of the Messiah. Absolutely every decision regarding expenses, hiring, or bids must receive the blessing of the Owner and are therefore subject to his moods and whims. He has no personal life outside of work and expects his office employees to have the same priorities. The Owner wants to play with the “big boys” yet micromanages the company to death. Aside from all the eye-rolling that’s going on within the company, the Owner undermines confidence of all employees, impeding productivity and pointing them towards the door. There is extremely high office turnover due to the aforementioned horrible working environment and “culture of intimidation”. The company is a façade that hides the significant internal conflict driven by the Owner. I would not recommend working for Signet Maritime.

Pros

Good pay, great benefits, nice equipment.

Cons

Way too many company politics and horrendous management. You will be stressed out no matter what position you are and the turnover rate is so high you constantly need be updating you email lists. Lots of great guys get hired on then get more work piled on then they can do because they fire everyone else then they end up leaving.
