Pros

Working in news, every day is different and exciting and it's never dull. You work with some great personalities and have a lot of fun.

Cons

Obviously the hours suck, but that's news. The biggest thing is that, as a production assistant, it's a lot of waiting around. You're there for the show and, unless the producers have something for you to do, you just sit there for three hours until the next show. Management lacks communication skills and you never know hat you're supposed to be doing on days when there's big events going on. I got yelled at for missing a day a month and a half later when I thought my boss and I had already worked it out. It's the little things that slowly drive you mad here and want to leave. The devil is in the details.

Social Media Producer

Pros

Benefits, networking, fast-paced. This is the television industry. Working in a news station never gets boring and constantly gives you something to talk about at the dinner table. The social media producer (or digital content manager, depending on the station) is centered on the website and social media platforms. If you already spend a lot of time on these, then the position is perfect! The digital team has great communication and means to help those at other stations! SBG is very focused on keeping their employees happy (and healthy!) by communicating.

Cons

Honestly working in media is meant for certain people. If you can't keep up with the news, follow a lead/news tip, then it isn't for you. The other con might be the constant moving between contracts and employee turnovers, but that's part of the industry and mostly applies to reporters.
