Pros

- Compensation is ok for the first 2 years - SoFriday

Cons

- Culture is completely broken. Pushing engineering team to think about the resiliency but move all the engineers to report to product. I feel this is completely broken piece here. Your performance is assessed by the product people who only cares about the delivery. Maybe you just take all the shortcut to get a good rating for few years then quit. - Another broken piece, CTO never helped the engineering team to establish a good relationship with the BU to make the win win - Due to the above two, there is no career growth for every single engineer in the team.

Pros

The majority of people you will work with at SoFi care about their job and are nice. The salary is decent and they offer a few perks like $200 per month 529 contribution. The CEO seems to have a level head on his shoulders and will do what it takes to become profitable.

Cons

The company is middle-management heavy, which means that individual contributor's WLB suffers as a result. Rather than use the middle manager's salary to hire more individual contractors, they stretch out ICs as much as they can. The company is generally pretty slow moving. It seems a lot more exciting from the outside looking in but when you peel back the layers you'll find that it's a glorified bank running a newer tech stack. The behind-the-scenes is pretty underwhelming. Outdated and lacking tools - A lot of the work I was doing was done in excel while at other, small, less established companies I had investment into tools to help me be more efficient. Little to no opportunities for growth. No 401k match.

Thanks for the time you spent with us, and we're really happy to hear you enjoyed the people at SoFi - we feel our employees are what make SoFi a special place to work. Pros

• Continuously updating their tech stacks to stay competitive • Their products are well-maintained and secure • Their coding standards and best practices are revised regularly. • Great benefits

Cons

• Very easy to burn out here • I was approaching burnout, so I brought it up to my manager, told them I was fried and really needed help, and then… nothing. I brought it up again, and… nothing. Eventually, I was written up for underperforming. I don't quite understand how it worked out that way. • Communication • Management's attention on their team is generally poor. Instead, they focus on keeping their manager(s) happy. Basically, it's backwards.

First and foremost, thank you for the 6+ years you dedicated to working at SoFi. We're happy you enjoyed our benefits package and we are so proud of our product line. We are changing the way people think about and interact with personal finance, helping to transform an industry that hasn't changed in decades. We acknowledge that this environment of innovation can be stressful, but we hope the reward is greater than the challenge and that you can see the impact you're making every day. That said, we are seeing across industries that burnout is at an all-time high, so we hope you shared this feedback with your manager or PBP. If you have any other thoughts to share, we welcome an email at sofi@glassdoor.org or you can reach out to our People team directly. Thank you for your time spent being part of the So-Family.
