Pros

I get paid to explore and experiment with the latest and greatest technologies. I am constantly learning new things every day and wake up genuinely excited to get to work. The salary is great, on top of quarterly bonuses, stock options, and free lunch everyday! This is a very exciting and fast paced job. You'll never be bored.

Cons

It is definitely a steep learning curve, due to the use of several open source tools and brand new technologies. When I first started, I hadn't even heard of half of the tools SoFi was using. On the other side, you get to learn from a very talented team and create a knowledge base that will extend almost 10 years into the future.

Pros

SoFi moves at a very fast pace, which is a benefit in that the company is constantly trying new things and making more and more available to its borrowers. The company values its employees who are willing to work hard by also allowing them to play hard and to find their niche in the organization. By playing hard, can you say carousel rides, free lunch, Nerf dart gun wars, and the occasional outing. Working hard means delivering what you said you could deliver on time, and with a high quality. Finding one's niche means that the company is good at allowing the employee to try new technologies and find the spot that is the best fit. Our borrowers benefit from all of this due to high employee satisfaction, motivation and dedication to making sure we have the best products available and are providing the best service possible.

Cons

Fast paced means sometimes feeling overwhelmed at all you need to learn to keep up with the company's needs and desires. It means pushing the edge on your comfort zone, and taking ownership of things you might not feel completely confident in doing. It also sometimes means pager duty - kicking you out of bed at 2:00a.m. In addition, those of us who lean towards perfection sometimes have to back off a little bit to settle for "good enough for this release", and strive to make the next one even better.
