Great, but....

Pros

Softchoice has a great corporate culture and it is evident in the way people interact with each other. They take pride in developing their employees and improving skills that are not only useful in career progression, but are transferable to any organization. Yes, the decor, dogs and beer are great, but it's the people you work with that make Softchoice a pleasant place to work at.

Cons

With the recent announcements of our senior management team, I was disappointed to find out they were all white, males. For a company with such diverse employees, you would think that upper management and executives would reflect that.

Fragmented, disjoint, shallow.

Pros

1. Good as a first job out of school, if you are completely "green", and need to get feet wet in sales environment 2. Good if you own a dog and need to bring it to work 3. Strong, experienced management at the very very top

Cons

1. Tends to be fragmented, disjoint, shallow 2. Low salaries compared to industry (depends on your benchmark) 3. Pretends to be fun and exciting - but more often comes off as fake and insincere 4. Inexperienced ineffective management makes it hard to grow and develop, or satisfy customers 5. Difficult to succeed in your role if customers barely tolerate the company, but just buy if low price 6. Frequent change of directions due to misunderstanding industry and resulting mismanagement 7. Difficult to keep focussed if business is slowly receding away 8. Seems like a high investment risk 9. Not at all suitable for technical experts who are looking to build skill and experience

Softchoice...an experience and nothing more.

Pros

Softchoice was very unique from other similar type VAR's. Beer carts, dogs in the workplace, and charitable/evironmental initiatives all showed that Softchoice Cared. "Softchoice Cares" was actually one of their homegrown initiatives and it was refreshing to work for an organization that would give back.

Cons

The culture was definitely different than that of other VAR's, but a lot of what Softchoice originally was built on disappeared with various acquistions which seemed to drain the bank. It took on a very corporate atmosphere, several employee cuts, as well as salary cuts. A great deal of stress was placed upon individuals, work life balance was an afterthought unless you were single, and leadership skills of some managers were nothing short of demoralizing. Being part of the "IN" club definitely had its advantages with sr. management and the executive teams. If you were not in that club, you didn't stand a chance. Inadvertent exec slips of the word " Xerox" instead of "Softchoice" were joked about at sales conferences as it seemed your natural progression after Xerox was employment at Softchoice. Those managers that seemed to care about their staff and doing the right thing were dismissed and replaced by long term, stale replacements at the dismay of staff. Definitely a lot of nepotism and it was abundantly clear to the staff.
