Pros

Great Culture and Great People. Lots of resources to grow your skills. If there is time in between contracts, you get to work on interesting projects/training. Resources exist to help in your personal training efforts.

Cons

Occasional demands on your unpaid personal time. You have to stay sharp by studying and learning on your own time. Commute changes as you change contracts/jobs. PTO and Holiday schedule isn't the best.

STG really does care

Pros

You get a lot of experience by being able to work on different projects all the time. STG also helps you keep your skills up by offering training resources. They really do care about their employees. The bench is paid and you can work on learning new things so that's pretty great. You also can bill for any overtime and either get paid or bank it as PTO.

Cons

Being a contractor is hard. They have clients all over Utah so you could be travelling far for a project and you don't always know how long the project will last. You also don't ever really feel like you belong to a company because you don't see STG people a lot so it gets lonely. A lot of other tech companies offer unlimited PTO or just more PTO in general but since STG needs to bill someone for you the PTO isn't great (though you can accrue it with overtime, but that's not quite the same). You rarely get to work from home, if ever. And pay isn't great generally, especially with the demand in this area for developers. The best way to get paid more is to get another offer and bring it to them. They also make you take PTO if you want to go to any career related training.

Great Company!

Pros

Software Technology Group (STG) is wholly dedicated to the success of its employees. Work/life balance is a primary concern, which is unusual in the field of consulting. Unlike other consulting firms, STG does not cut employees loose between assignments. After an engagement concludes, your salary and benefits remain at 100%, and you are only expected to learn and make yourself more marketable while the wonderful folks in the sales department line you up with a new opportunity.

Cons

The gray cloud of the consulting career's silver lining is that there is little room for upward mobility. While STG always pays its employees what the market will bear, the assignments and responsibilities of each engagement (ie, the things that populate your resume) are solely controlled by the company to whom you're assigned. This is true of the consulting industry as a whole, though; it is not particular to STG.
