Pros

Great overall vision and product. Uncapped commissions. You are truly helping people and the environment.

Cons

The amount of work versus what you make is horrible. Yes, there are the few that are making 6 figures but majority of sales are not. Too many mangers are totally unqualified. Just because you can sell doesn't make you a good manager. Employee policies vary depending on who you are, gold ol' boys club feel. High turnover.

Pros

You're literally changing the world. Leadership truly believes in what they are doing to change the way we consume energy and they want to do good in the world (and make money).

Cons

Huge "Bro" culture. No women in leadership roles. Very male dominated company.

Pros

SolarCity is a great brand name with lots of money. As such, employees are paid better than average and the product is easier to sell. A big perk is that there is very little oversight, if you hit your quota, you can self-manage and become your own boss in a way.

Cons

Bad for clients. The same reason why it is good to work for SolarCity, it is bad to do business with them. Because they have such a good brand, they exploit it. They charge clients double the price their competitors do. SolarCity charges 12-15 cents a kW/h, while most of their competitors charge 6-8 cents. It is hard for me to be motivated when I know quite literally that what I sale, is ripping people off. When I first started our managers made it seem like we were saving the world and people's wallets. In reality, we are charging people twice the amount for the same end product - a kW/h. Additionally, solar can be quite resourcefully wasteful with improvements coming about constantly and precious metals being used that can not be replenished. Finally, the current government write-offs, which all solar companies are reliant on to stay in business, is not doing our budget any favors. Also, being expected to work 8 hours a day inside Home Depot's approaching cold customers who want nothing to do with you, is very unrealistic. As a result, everyone I work with does not work 8 hours, we simply claim to.
