Pros

I met some great people while working here, and we had a lot of fun. We were provided with modern technology to use for work. I also enjoyed the outings after work once in a while, and that the company provided lunch sometimes. I think that even though they are a large company, they are doing something great for the entire world. I would have liked to be involved in their GivePower program, but the day-to-day b.s. was not worth sticking around that long. For some people, I think this job is the best they'll ever get and will allow them to evolve into the best version of themselves. I think on the macro-macro level of business, this company has the right idea.

Cons

Team-building activities were a joke, because most (not all) of management was not relate-able for those of us in the FES and FEC positions. What was worse was when management would show up in suits and the rest of us in polo shirts and even compared salaries (yes, one of the Directors once mentioned to a roomful of FESs that he made $2 million); I can't respect leadership that doesn't respect us as equals. Upon entering the company, I was told promotion was possible in as little as two months; in reality, the soonest is 90 days. After my 90 days, for two months as a top-performer, I was told I was next in line for promotion, but instead of promoting me, they brought in more people from the outside to fill the openings, for which I was MORE than qualified, all because they needed the "opportunities" that I generated to "feed the channel." The expectations that management set did not match their actions and follow-through. I watched this cycle happen to not just myself, but many others, as well. I left this craziness, because I have more self-respect than to be puppeted around by management that's just trying to get ahead for their own personal gain and doesn't truly care about their lower-level employees. I also foresee this company struggling financially in the future, because a lot of money is thrown away on big prizes and trips....they kind of like to cover up their undercutting of employees with expensive things (i.e. technology items, trips, parties, etc.) Furthermore, I do not think they can sustain themselves as a company when there are so many other companies that deliver better quality product and service in the same industry. All of the above isn't even considering that thousands of dirty deals were made. That's right, THOUSANDS of "opportunities" and "closed deals" were fake inputs to increase management's numbers for their supervisors to praise. Once those fake deals did not become good enough, they put even more pressure on FESs and FECs to do better and create more opportunities and close more clean deals than they were previously closing dirty deals. On the micro and macro-micro levels of business, this company has a lot of work to do.

Pros

I love working for SolarCity. I have been here now for 8 years and have had multiple positions. I have obtained so many different skills and the company has supported my growth through all these years. SolarCity provides employees with careers and I am so fortunate to be a part of it.

Cons

Saving the world isn't easy, and working here is definitely a challenge. This isn't a day job, its a lifestyle.
